Chinese Cinderella Book Review

Hey guys it’s Zainab! Before I start this post I would just like to say thank you so much for 20 followers, I really appreciate it! Let’s see what the next milestone will be!

I have recently finished a book called Chinese Cinderella and I found it such an inspiring story, so today I’ll give you a quick book review!

Official Reviews
Chinese Cinderella received so many amazing reviews such as 4.1/5 stars on Goodreads and 5/5 stars from Waterstones! The novel also has 87% of Google Users liking the book! Goodreads also described it is a ‘riveting memoir’ which is so true!

My Opinion
Chinese Cinderella was probably one of the most emotional books I have ever read. It tells the true story of neglected Chinese girl Adeline Yen Mah and how she overcame all her sadness. Her story is the most unfortunate and tragic thing I have ever heard as her whole family thinks she was bad luck and she was hated by her siblings. I would definitely recommend it to someone who is going through a rough time and letting them know they aren’t alone.
Also, considering I usually tend to read fiction books over non-fiction books or autobiographies but the way Adeline portrays her story makes it so interesting and you want to know more about what happens. Another great thing about the book is it teaches you about the Chinese Culture!

Synopsis (From Goodreads)
A Chinese proverb says, “Falling leaves return to their roots.” In Chinese Cinderella, Adeline Yen Mah returns to her roots to tell the story of her painful childhood and her ultimate triumph and courage in the face of despair. Adeline’s affluent, powerful family considers her bad luck after her mother dies giving birth to her. Life does not get any easier when her father remarries. She and her siblings are subjected to the disdain of her stepmother, while her stepbrother and stepsister are spoiled. Although Adeline wins prizes at school, they are not enough to compensate for what she really yearns for — the love and understanding of her family.

Thanks for reading guys, I hope you enjoyed this review and I truly think you should all give this book a read!
