Black Widow Movie Review

Hello everyone it’s Zainab here, welcome or welcome back to Zainab Chats! I’m super excited for today’s blog post as I’m going to be reviewing Marvel’s new movie: Black Widow. Anybody who knows me, knows that I’m such a big Marvel fan so I can’t wait to share my thoughts on this, I’m writing this literally a couple of hours after I watched it so everything will be really fresh in my mind. I’m going to try and keep this as a non-spoiler review as I know there are many Marvel fans and by the time this goes out it would only be out for about a week. Okay, let’s jump into the review!

Official Reviews:

Black Widow received so many great reviews including 82% on Rotten Tomatoes and 4/5 Stars from Common Sense Media and they also said, ‘While it took far too long for Black Widow to get her own solo film, she puts her moment to good use, blowing up the patriarchy in epic style.’ The movie also got 4.7/5 Stars from the Google Audience Rating!

My Opinion:
Black Widow is an emotional yet action packed roller coaster where Black Widow finally reunites with people in her past in order to take down The Red Room (a room where The Taskmaster manipulates women into spies).

One thing that is very much unique about this movie is that you see Natasha Romanoff in her most vulnerable place for the first time in the MCU. You see her origin story and how she became a Widow along with her sister and it’s definitely heartbreaking (I almost cried when watching it!) I won’t get into what exactly happens but it definitely is quite deep!

Another great theme of this movie is family. Natasha and her family are definitely not a conventional family but they still all love each other after many ups and downs shown in the movie. My favourite line is when her father says ‘We’re your family, we fight with you.’ It’s such a beautiful line hopefully other families can relate to.

All in all, this was the first MCU film in over a year, and Marvel definitely delivered, I can’t wait to see what’s coming next. Also, the post credits scene was shocking so look out for that!

Synopsis:

Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy, and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

I’ve said this a lot (and I still stand by it), but I think this movie is like 5 years too late. It would have added so much to have this BEFORE Infinity War, but oh well, can’t have it all, I guess?
The Black Widow movie, like the Phase 4 shows, proved how amazing the cinematography is though. I think it all has a much more grounded look and is more emotionally driven in its portrayal of the characters. I’m glad we got to meet her family and have this found family trope in there. I’m really looking forward how they’ll tie them into future projects. Great review!

I would definitely like to watch Black Widow, but I feel like I would have to watch other movies first to understand it. Which movies do you think those would be?

Yeah I definitely think you should watch some to understand! I would say: Iron Man 2, Avengers 1, Captain America: The Winter Solider, Avengers 2, and Captain America: Civil War.
Haha it’s quite a lot so if you just watched Iron Man 2 and Captain America: Civil War, I think you’d be okay!
