What You Can Learn From Periods Of Stress & Challenge

Hey everyone, it’s Zainab, welcome or welcome back to my blog! I’m so happy to be back from my week long break (honestly, it wasn’t that much of a break as I was still scheduling posts like this one) but regardless I’m happy to be posting again. My end of year exams are over, not to mention it’s my last month of school now so I’m very happy about that. Thank you all for the exam support over the last week – it meant so much to have your support!

But today’s post is going to be getting into my last 2 weeks. Exams can obviously bring out stress, I’ve definitely learned that. Yet, I’ve realised that times of stress and challenge can be great learning points – so that’s what I’ll be sharing with you all today!

If You Can Get Through It Once, You Can Get Through It Again

I think this is such a good example in terms of exams or school stress, but honestly you can use this in many aspects of life. If you’re going through something yet again, whether it’s emotionally, academically etc, you know that you’ve gotten through it once, therefore you know you can get past this again.

It’s just about taking that energy from the stress, and putting it into getting past the challenging period in your life.
If you’re in school and you have annual exams this is a great example, you’ve done the exams once last year, so you can do them again!

Your True Methods Of Relaxations and Peace

Many people already have set ways of destressing and switching off from the world around them. And a lot of the time, they stick to them no matter what, even if they think they’re working.

In actual fact, this period of exams has made me reevaluate my coping and relaxation strategies and I’ve actually realised I had new ways of finding peace in all the stress. So, if you think you have a way of keeping calm, make sure it’s actually benefiting you, if it isn’t, try some different things until you find what does work for you.

For the longest time, I always thought reading was my way of destressing, and although I enjoy it and I know it works for a lot of people, it simply doesn’t work for me as I get too worried about learning the definitions of any new words I’ve learned – which is not helpful when I’m already stressed.
It was only when I agreed to a bike ride that I realised that cycling has become such a great method of relaxation for me, and I’ll continue using it for as long as I can!

Your Optimum Stress Level

This may be a slightly weird thing to think about, but in actual fact, a lot of people perform better while they’re under stress. It’s only too much stress when you might break down or not do the best. That’s why, these times of stress can actually be a great period to figure out how much stress allows you to rise to the challenge and perform at your best!

This is actually scientifically proven through the Yerkes Dodson Law, which has proved some stress is needed for optimum results. I have a whole post dedicated to this law which you can read here.
