Things To Remember When It Comes To Self Esteem

Hey everyone, it’s Zainab, welcome or welcome back to my blog! Recently, I was going through WordPress reader and read a post Princess Q’Zion in which she wrote about improving self esteem since May is National Teen Self Esteem Month. So, today I thought it would be fitting to write about some things to remember when it comes to self esteem. Make sure to read the post I was inspired by about Improving Self Esteem. Other than that, let’s jump into it!

Self Esteem is defined as..

Confidence in one’s own worth or abilities; self-respect.

Oxford Languages

Self Esteem is different in every individual

A lot of people will look at other people and think, ‘Why am I not as confident as them?’ or ‘Why can they do this better than me?’ But the truth is, even if you’re doing the same thing as someone else, self esteem is very much an individual feeling and you cannot genuinely copy someone else’s. Of course, there is the well known phrase ‘Fake It Till You Make It’ which will build it up over time, but it’s still at different points in every person. It’s all about individuality!

It can easily change

As stated in the definition, self esteem is based on respect or your abilities. Therefore, your actions are going to affect what you’re doing, and it’s constantly changing based on your life. For example, you might be really creative and have high self esteem in your art abilities, but when you’re asked to do public speaking it may be lower. So, it’s always going to be dependent on where you’re at in life.

Don’t let some else’s affect yours negatively

I spoke previously about how self esteem revolves around individuality, which is generally true. But, like most things, you can always be influenced a little by what’s going on around you. So, if you’re around people who are speaking negatively about themselves with low self esteem, you might be doing the same thing. Whether it’s making them feel better, or you feel like these words are true; I’m here to tell you to stop letting people negatively affect your self respect – you should be you and feel how you feel!

Thank you so much for reading this post, I hope you can keep these in mind when trying to improve self esteem. I have not done a post with specific improvement tips, so let me know if that’s something you’d like to see! Remember to read Princess Z’Quion’s post about Improving Self Esteem.
