Blogger’s Confessions With Maryam From Infinitely A Daydreamer

Hey everyone it’s Zainab, today I’m getting to interview one of my great blogging friends: Maryam from Indefinitely A Daydreamer! Let’s get into this interview!

Thanks so much for agreeing to be interviewed, let’s start by you telling my readers a bit about yourself and your blogging journey?

Thank you for having me on your blog Zainab and hello to everybody reading!

I’m Maryam- a minimalist, intersectional feminist, lifestyle + wellness blogger and creatively driven teen from sunny Sydney. I’m an aspiring interior designer and self proclaimed iced coffee fanatic. I’ve been blogging over at infinitelyadaydreamer for over five years now. It’s a home for all my internal musings and has brought me community.

A fun fact about my journey is that I started off as a gaming blogger! I was ten years old and quite in love with movie star planet. It was essentially a fan page. I had come across an ad for WordPress while browsing online and figured I’d make my own site as it seemed like a mature, adult thing to do!

Your blog has over 900 followers, very close to 1000, what strategies did you use to grow your blog to this many followers?

I’m currently about forty followers away from a thousand and am mindblown when I contemplate this figure!

I have a considerably larger following on my Instagram page but I’ve always considered blogging to be a more difficult pursuit. When you have a website there are many aspects to manage and be on top of. It’s not as simple as taking pretty pictures and waiting for a potential audience to click that follow button! It is, however, more than worth going the extra mile for. I started taking blogging more seriously early last year and that’s when the change happened. When I first started my blog growth was very slow to come. My site was unrefined, I had no defined niches and I certainly wouldn’t have followed me if I was in someone else’s position. My content at that point didn’t offer anything of value to the reader.

I’ve worked hard to make sure my blog posts are worth my reader’s time and that I pass on a lesson, teachable moment or add to their day, even in ways subtle.I post consistently three times a week and use a mixture of stock and my own images throughout my website. This gives my posts a polished, professional look whilst allowing my audience to get to know me. I like to strike a balance and post on both serious and light hearted topics. It is important to me that I cross boundaries and appeal to a wider audience than just teenagers.

Lastly, I am to always represent myself in a way that speaks to who I truly am. I want to be authentic and let my audience know that I am person just like them. I laugh, I cry, I make mistakes, I have days where I feel on top of the world.

On your blog, you talk a lot about minamalism in life, how did you get involved with this lifestyle?

I discovered minimalism in 2017 and it changed my life in remarkable ways. I used to be someone who hung onto every little trinket and momento. My bedroom was chock full of them. It was suffocating both physically and mentally- to further illustrate this point, I even found a letter received from an ex!

This was a turning point. I realised that I needed to make a big lifestyle change. I did my research, watched some documentaries and slowly but surely started to live again. I emptied my closet, my desk drawers and ruthlessly culled when and where needed. I gave my space a thorough clean and made a commitment to change my ways. I chose minimalism because it is an enabler, not a disabler. It brings a higher sense of clarity and purpose to all those who pursue it. At its core, minimalist living denotes the intentional promotion of what is most valuable and the subtraction of what distracts from that. Minimalism invites you to come as you are and slowly begins to affect change in youre lofe.

For the final question, for those of you who have seen Maryam’s blog her blog design is amazing, how did you come up with your amazing blog design?

You are so lovely! Thank you for the kind words. I designed my blog graphics a couple of years back and rework the layout when I feel like a fresh look is needed on the blog. I stick to a simple palette of grey, white and gold florals as this is timeless and I am identifiable by this. Essentially, it’s my signature look 🙂

Being a minimalist I value simplicity. This is what I find the most beauty in- uncomplicated design with no frills and no fuss!

Guys that’s everything, but you should definitely check out Maryam’s blog, and get her to 1 thousand followers!

Life Upate

Hey everyone it’s Zainab, today I thought it’s been a while since I’ve done a Life Update and a lot has been happening lately so I thought I’d just sum it up in one post!

2nd Covid Lockdown:
Okay, so the main thing I have to talk about in this post is the 2nd UK National Lockdown! Honestly, I don’t know how I feel, it hasn’t changed much for me as they have kept schools open. To be honest, I really wished schools closed – I love school however in my school we have already had some cases which I’m kind of nervous about but hopefully everything will be fine.

Starting Back At School:
So I’ve been back at school for around 2 months now and I’ve already had my half term! I’m currently in Year 9 which means I’ve started learning my GCSE Content. I definitely think this year will be my year at school! At the end of the holidays, I set myself goals for this school year and for the first half term I have managed to achieve them! The only one I didn’t manage to do is extra curricular activities as they have unfortunately been cancelled.

Exercise:
I have no idea why but lately I’ve seemed to want to work out more and more, I think it’s probably as I’ve been eating a lot of unhealthy stuff recently! The workouts are definitely helpful, however some days I’m motivated some I’m not, so if you have any tips let me know below!

Starting A Bullet Journal:
So, I’ve recently started a bullet journal and I’ve really been enjoying it! I love how you are free to choose whatever spreads you want or how you want to decorate it!

So guys that’s everything I’ve needed to update you guys on, let me know below how all of your lives are going!

Blogger’s Confessions With Pooja From Lifesfinewhine

Hey everyone it’s Zainab welcome or welcome back to the blog! I feel like it’s been a long time since I’ve done a Blogger’s Confessions post! Today, I’ll be interviewing Pooja from Lifesfinewhine! We talk all about blogging and growth! Let’s jump into it!

1) Thanks for agreeing to be interviewed Pooja! Let’s start with talking about your blog growth. Now, you are probably one of the most popular bloggers I’ve ever seen with over 18K followers! How long have you been blogging and what would advice would you want to give to new bloggers who grow like you?
Thanks so much for having me on your blog! I have been blogging since 2015 and I think the advice I would give to other bloggers is to be patient. Statistically the majority of people who create a blog stop blogging in the first couple of months and I think the reason for this is that people expect their blogs to grow instantly. There’s nothing wrong with that of course- I was like that when I started out too. However, it rarely works like that. It takes a while to grow your blog so remain patient, put out good content and don’t give up.

2) You’ve obviously been blogging for a very long time, have you ever faced adversity / hate in the blogging world, and how did you overcome it?
Yes, I have faced quite a lot of hate especially in the last two years as my blog grew quite quickly. As you get followers you’ll also get haters it’s quite normal on the Internet. At first I was devastated but I think the best way to deal with hate or negativity is to understand that it has more to do with the person sending the hate than it does with you. Ignore it and keep doing you.

3) Usually, people who grow as big as a following as you have like to expand and start something like a Youtube channel, have you ever thought of doing this or would be open to creating one in the future?
I have definitely thought about branching out more and doing things like YouTube in the future. As a fourth year university student I don’t have a lot of time to do other stuff but once I am done with my degree I definitely want to try other platforms too.

4) As you’re quite big you will probably have brands approaching you, what advice would you give to bloggers looking to land things like sponsored posts, etc!
I think the main advice I would give is to not wait till people reach out to you but rather to reach out to brands/companies/etc and let them know you would love to work with them. Although you will get a lot of rejections you may end up also working with some really great brands and a lot of times you get rejected however they keep you in mind for when they start a campaign or your platform grows and work with you in the future.

Thanks so much to Pooja for coming on the blog, check out her blog here! Also, I will be doing another assumptions post too and you can send in anonymous assumptions here – assume anything as it’s anonymous!

Enola Holmes Movie Review

Hey everyone it’s Zainab, recently a new movie came out on Neflix called: Enola Holmes and it was in Netflix’s Top 10 so I had to watch it! Today, I’ll review the movie and share my thoughts!

Official Reviews:
Enola Holmes received 90% on the Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and had 71% on the Audience Score. Also, the movie had 94% of Google Users liking the film. On the website ‘Plugged In‘ it was said that, ‘Enola Holmes delivers mostly positive messages about individuality, equality and freedom.’

My Opinion:
Honestly, I thought Enola Holmes was such a great story and mystery focusing on finding your purpose, and spreading equality and helping people! It honestly has such a great mysterious plot as Enola’s mother has gone missing and she needs to find her, the way the film encapsulates it is incredible. It also has a huge historical aspect talking about things such as the Suffragettes movement and even the minor details such as the sets and costumes are so detailed! I also love how it links back to other films and series such as having Enola’s brother being Sherlock Holmes. This film also features an amazing cast with the one and only Millie Bobby Brown playing Enola herself, and doing a great job!

Synopsis:
While searching for her missing mother, intrepid teen Enola Holmes uses her sleuthing skills to outsmart big brother Sherlock and help a runaway lord.

So guys that’s the review, let me know if you’ve watched this movie in the comments!

Karate Black Belt
Not many people actually know this but I’m actually training in karate! I’m currently a purple belt but one of my all time favourite dreams is to be a black belt, I hope I can reach it!

Good Family
I feel like most people want this in life but I cannot wait to have my own family when I’m older!

Talk Show
Some people know this but my dream is to have my own talk show, the Pinterest Pin of the set is a rough idea of what I would want my set to look like.

How To Be More Confident In Yourself

Hey guys it’s Zainab! One of my most requested posts is how to gain confidence and how to be confident in yourself! So today I’m going to share with you how you should be confident in yourself in different circumstances!

In Public: Most Of The People Will Never See You Again
If you’re in public and you need to do something like public speaking with a room full of people you hardly even know then just be yourself! Besides, most of the people you won’t ever see again so who cares what they think!

In Places With People You Know: They Won’t Judge You
With people you know, you should just be yourself because they won’t judge you as you already know them, and even if they do judge you, they’ll most likely keep it to themselves as they know you so you won’t even know what they think! So, embrace your inner confidence!

In Your Mental Health
I didn’t know whether to put this in or not however mental health is super important! So, the way I’m confident with my mental health is to just think of positive affirmations! Even simple ones like ‘you got this,’ can really make a difference!

How To Balance Blogging And School

Hello everyone it’s Zainab! I get a lot of questions on how I balance blogging and school so today I want to share how I do that!

Have A Schedule
Having a schedule will allow you to prioritise parts of the day for school and parts of it to blog. If you set aside an hour straight after school for revision then you can prioritise the rest of the day for writing blog posts and organising your blog.

Spend The Weekend
If you’re quite big on school like me, instead of spending the week blogging you can spend the weekend blogging! This is great so you can spend school days revising and the weekend blogging!

Prioritise Which Is Important
In this part you really have to think what’s important. If you want to have a very academically focused life when you’re older, you may want to spend more time in school. Whereas if your goal is to me a full time blogger maybe you should spend more time on your blog!

Thank you guys so much for reading, let me know how you balance blogging and school in the comments!

My Perspective On Starting My GCSEs: Collab With Imaan

Hi everyone it’s Zainab, hope you’re all having a great day! Today, I’m going to be sharing my perspective of starting my GCSE Courses, I’ll be sharing what I think about the courses, revision method I want to try and more!

Also, this post is a collab with one of my talented blogging friends Imaan. She will be sharing what she wish she knew before she started her GCSEs so her blog will be linked here however she is actually doing her mock exams this week so she will be doing her post next week! Be sure to go over to her blog and give her lots of good vibes before her exams! Let’s jump into it!

Starting The GCSE Course:
So, honestly my opinions of starting my GCSEs has varied from course to course! For example, I found Geography fairly easy in Year 7 and 8 but I have found it’s definitely been getting more challenging as I am going through the GCSE topics.

However, something like Citizenship I have found pretty easy in the GCSE Course and it’s also very interesting for me to learn! All my other subjects have been fine though, nothing that has exaggerated in difficulty yet!

Revision Methods I’ll Try:
Many people have said to me it’s best to make your revision materials as you learn the topics so you don’t have to rush before the exam. So I’ve got a couple of revision methods I want to try to see what suits me before the exams:

  • Mindmaps – I have used these in Year 7 and 8, they definitely help me however they take way too long to make so I’m not sure if that will be practical
  • Voice Memos – This is actually a not a very well known method but I’ve heard that if you record yourself saying your facts and play it back listening to it will help you revise!
  • Note Taking – Making notes is something I’ve only started doing in September but it’s been going well so far and I find reading out the notes and rewriting them definitely helps me revise!

So guys that was my perspective of how I hope my GCSEs will go, I hope you enjoyed reading it! Be sure to check out Imaan’s Blog and let me know what you thought of this post!
